Description

The active participation of women during the Revolution, alongside many men, is now recognized. Against Marat, and especially against Robespierre, stands Olympe de Gouges. She moved to Paris in the early 1770s, began to write and never stopped. Epistolary novel, plays, philosophical tale, letters, brochures, posters and her famous Declaration: she tries all genres in a committed writing, with the appearance of a flight forward, ready to die for her moderate ideas that will lead her to the guillotine. The Declaration of the Rights of Women and of the Citizen reflects in its various parts the striking richness of the work of Olympe de Gouges and carries to our century the voice of an enthusiastic revolutionary. A cornerstone of the fight for equality between men and women, this text, rediscovered at the beginning of the twentieth century, continues to stimulate our debates. Folder: 1. Public voice, strength and cause: sharing equality 2.Equality: between violence and moderation 3. Freedom, Equality, Humanity 4. Writings and deeds.
